Welcome! One of the largest university-affiliated art museums in the United States, the Harn Museum has an 112,800-square-foot facility, which includes exhibition space, a 180-seat auditorium, a study center with multi-media and hands-on resources, two gardens, a museum store, and the Camellia Court Café.
Our Mission : The University of Florida’s Harn Museum of Art collaborates with university and community partners to inspire, educate and enrich people’s lives through art. The museum brings the joy of experiencing great works of art to diverse university, community, national and global audiences through relevant and enlightening art collections, exhibitions and learning opportunities.
The museum’s collections of more than 11,000 works of art reflect the breadth of UF’s areas of academic scholarship. With African, Asian, modern and contemporary art and photography collections, the museum contributes to the intellectual vitality of the institution through collaborations with faculty, staff and students on exhibitions, publications and programming.
The museum also advances the field of art history by conducting original research and organizing exhibitions to be displayed at the Harn Museum and touring exhibitions that travel to other major cultural institutions.
The Harn Museum is named in honor of Samuel Peebles Harn (1893-1957), whose widow, three daughters and their husbands and grandchildren made the founding gift for the museum’s construction. The three generations pledged more than $3 million for the construction of a fine arts museum in 1983. At the time, it was the largest private gift ever given to the University of Florida.
